We're from the Government, and we're here to help

Did you hear about this?....

"On 17 July, the DoJ served a website-hosting company, DreamHost, with a search warrant for every piece of information it possessed that was related to a website that was used to coordinate protests during Donald Trump’s inauguration. The warrant covers the people who own and operate the site, BUT ALSO SEEKS TO GET THE IP ADDRESSES OF 1.3 MILLION PEOPLE WHO VISITED IT, AS WELL AS THE DATE AND TIME OF THEIR VISIT AND INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT BROWSER OR OPERATING SYSTEM THEY USED."

While I don't support anyone who wants to foment violence, for any reason, going after anyone who even visited the site just smacks of 1930's Germany.  What happened to "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer"?  Our Department of Justice, who is supposed to be safeguarding our rights, is now violating them.  WTH?

Why now?  True, Dubya Bush got some extra-special permission (the Patriot Act) to pierce some of our privacy laws after 9-11, but it was in DIRECT RESPONSE to terrorist attacks on our country.  But today, who is under "attack"?  Donald Trump?

So if someone dares to object to something Prez Trump says, it's now OK to....what?  Invade their privacy?  Order an IRS audit of them?  Prohibit them from getting a student loan, or vote, or suspend their Constitutional Rights?

Somebody who has a better understanding of the law, please tell me this is unconstitutional.

  1. It sounds unconstitutional to me, but then there are other instances where this administration hasn't honored the Constitution.

  2. I offer to you a bit from a post of yours a bit over a year ago:
"Yes, The Donald has had much ridicule heaped on him this election season for his....umm....unusual ideas. But he has also brought into the light some issues that had been largely underground for years. You might have to look deep, but he's done us all a service and maybe secured for himself a worthwhile legacy in the process."

Funny how it worked out, eh? Still grateful?

    1. Ha! Ya' got me...maybe I should have included a qualifier...Civil War statues and neo-nazi's weren't even on my radar a year ago. But things like reviewing 25 year old trade agreements and updating them to be a bit more fair to the US seemed reasonable. It's still to be seen what will come of trade re-negoniations. And calling our NATO partners on the carpet and asking them to honor their agreements to up their defense budgets to 3% of the GDP instead of leaning on the US so much. He called them out alright, in the most untactful way imaginable. And trying to stem the outflow of jobs by revising our tax code to prevent companies from taking a charge-off their taxes to pay for moving costs and severance packages for fired workers. Sill waiting for that one, too. And seeing to it health insurance was available for everyone. Now he's more than willing to drop 18/22/24 million from insurance coverage. Yes, he's brought some light to issues that needed illuminating for sure, but has done nothing to remedy any of them. So, yeah, touche, you got me. :)

  3. Well since Trump supports Nazis why shouldn't he act like one?
